For this assignment you are asked to write a 2,000 word policy brief on one of the topics below. • The aim of the policy brief is to give you an opportunity to apply the theory covered in the lectures to a particular policy problem. • The brief should balance economic theory and empirical evidence; you can assume the reader has some knowledge of economic theory, but you should try and explain it in a fairly non-technical way. • You should choose your own specific title, based on the topics given, and can include pictures, tables, graphs or diagrams. I understand you’re not graphic designers, so you don’t have to worry too much about the actual formatting of the work. • You can choose whether to write an objective brief, which gives a balanced overview of the various policy options but does not recommend a specific course of action, or an advocacy brief, which provides an argument in favour of a particular policy. Select a country of your choice and discuss the main problem(s) affecting that country’s healthcare sector, their causes and possible solutions to address them. Discussion should focus on whether the policy solutions should include a greater role for the government or markets, and why.
