Before 1928, Britain was a democratically lacking country, with many people being denied the vote, especially women. The right gender and a large amount of wealth were the properties needed in order to participate in British politics. Many major political reforms took place from 1867, up to 1928, slowly allowing more and more people to become part of the electorate. One of the earlier reforms which moved Britain towards democracy were introduced in 1867, however the country still could not be called a democracy. The reforms which had a significant importance in making Britain more democratic by removing corruption from the political process, expanding the electorate and holding the government accountable included the 1867 Second Reform Act, the 1872 Secret Ballot Act, the 1911 Parliament Act, the 1918 Representation of the People Act and the 1928 Reform Act, however, these acts were still not enough to make Britain a democracy.
