Year 11 (A) English Narrative "An Invitation" Extract: The brisk air hit Eli’s body as he pulled his covers back and stepped onto the familiar hardwood floors of his bedroom. His toes curled at the coolness of the material against his bare skin as he stretched out his limbs. With each crack of his joints, a hushed sigh of relief fell from his lips. Eli, feeling each sensation course through his body, had an overwhelming sense of calmness flood over him – a sense of calm that he hadn’t felt in weeks, strange Eli thought to himself. The sun peered in through the rectangular windows creating geometric patterns across his room and for a moment, Eli swore he could hear birds chirping in the distance. He also wondered, for a moment, how his curtains were already opened. Had he forgotten to close them the night before? I doubt it, he thought. Puzzled, Eli, began to make his way downstairs into the kitchen.
