Grameen Bank was the outcome of an experiment conducted in 1976 by Professor Muhammed Yunus. The purpose of this experiment was to see if "the poor were given small amounts of credit, trained to manage their finances, trained to increase their skills and investing in income generating assets"(Professor Ram Kumar and Munish 2009 Grameen Bank pg 3) whether this would allow economically excluded classes the ability to generate wealth and ultimately be credit worthy from a major banks prospective.
