More recently, that view has come under sustained attack as efficiency becomes a key requirement of legal systems that are publicly funded to large scale complex litigation. The Australian legal system has responded to that requirement by seeeking to make costs proportionate to the matters in dispute, reduce delay and acknowledge that the courts must be concerned not merely with justice between the parties in a particular case but in the dispensation of justice to all court users.
