In this essay I will deal with the Grandfather Paradox and the massive and improbable coincidences that could present themselves in such a scenario. I will argue that whether we are faced with “massive and improbable coincidences” is dependent upon the way we define “massive coincidences” in our world and other possible worlds. I will conclude that these “improbable coincidences” will occur, but the fact they occur should not be shocking and improbable to us. What this tells us about our world is that freedom is not a limitation on ability. We can be free but unable to do certain things. I will discuss this with close reference to Phil Dowe’s “Closed Timelike curves”, Theodore Sider’s “A new grandfather paradox” and Theodore Sider’s “Time travel, coincidences and counterfactuals”."
