For the purpose of this report, a visit was made to the xxxx Magistrates Court on 25 August 2014. The purpose of this visit was to gain a greater insight into a matter being tried. The subject matter I observed was drug offences, involving Mr T, the accused and the xxxxxxxx Police. At a rural property on xxxx Road, at xxxxx police allegedly located a large quantity of cannabis and drug paraphernalia. The police charged Mr T with one count each of possessing a utensil, possessing a drug and producing a dangerous drug. Although the offence was indictable, the trial was able to be dealt with summarily before the magistrate.1 On this day, Magistrate xxxxx was the xxxxx Magistrate for this particular case. Among those present were Senior Constable K, the police prosecutor; Mr A, the defendant’s lawyer; and Mrs V, the depositions clerk. This report will reflectively discuss my observations at the court visit. The language of the court will also be examined.
