The purpose of this report is to discuss the use of simulation as a learning tool and whether the simulation is an effective method to enhance management skills. The Everest simulation is a virtual based learning simulation which was designed for management students in order to apply management theories into practice when dealing with challenges and difficulties. The objective of the simulation is to work as a team in order to reach the summit of Mount Everest and at the same time, maximising individual and team goals. Students are put into teams of six, and each member has individual roles and goals within the group. Additionally, students were also given the opportunity to experience working and making decisions as a team. The teams were given two chances; each attempt uses different ways of communicating. The first attempt was done using computer-based communication, whereas face-to-face communication is essential in completing the second try. Based on the simulation that was attempted twice, there was an increase in the percentage of goal achievement. Thus, this the results indicated that when members were actively participating in decision-making and discussing the problems through face-to-face, performance was likely to improve. Notwithstanding, the simulation is based on climbing the Mount Everest, which is unlikely to happen in real life.
