SOSS1001 - Social Research and Society
2 Found helpful • 3 Pages • Essays / Projects • Year: Pre-2021 • Previously uploaded under: SRAP1001 - Social Research and Society
Poverty is an undeniable reality of today’s society. Poverty affects people all around the world, with some cases more than others. While poverty is most serious in third world countries, poverty also exists in developing countries around the world, Australia included. Whether Australia suffers from poverty or not, has been a very controversial issue with one side suggesting that Australia does not experience genuine privation, and the other opposing this notion by saying that many Australians live in poverty. Literature on poverty so far has been based on general poverty, child poverty and poverty among Indigenous Australians, the homeless and mental patients. This review will be focused on the argument supporting the existence of poverty in Australia, rather than the denial of it.
