Assessment 2 Biodiversity Measurement and Assessment Report
BIOS1301 - Ecology, Sustainability and Environmental Science
1 Found helpful • 11 Pages • Essays / Projects • Year: Pre-2021
Differences in biodiversity of two habitat types, leaf litter and light trap (flying invertebrates) are investigated in this report. The experiment involves the collection of invertebrates between deep leaf litter (rainforest) and shallow leaf litter (eucalyptus forest) habitat to calculate the abundance, species richness and diversity, and compare the values across two sample sites. Specifically, discussed is whether there is a difference between the biodiversity in the two types of leaf litter and whether there a difference between flying invertebrate and leaf litter invertebrate communities within the same habitat and any adaptations that account for this. Lastly, the biases in experimental technique when collecting the leaf litter and light trap samples will be analysed. There is also a big difference in the numbers of sample size between my group and other groups caused by the limitation of time of the experiment, which some groups needed to estimate the number of invertebrate instead of counting accurately.
