My transformation is an artwork which incorporates the idea of the dangers of engaging with the supernatural which is present within William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Macbeth shows themes of “supernatural soliciting” causing danger, as well as themes of disturbing the ‘natural order’ through Macbeth’s constant interaction with the three witches which leads to Macbeth taking a dishonourable course of action. This can first be seen in Act 1 Scene 3 ‘The Witches Prophecy’ where Macbeth is struggling with his thoughts after being told to go against the natural order. In this scene it is shown that Macbeth is unclear of what he should do about the witches prophecy and is concerned about taking the prophecy into his own hands. For my transformation I have decided to create an artwork which displays the theme of the supernatural and the dangers with interacting with the supernatural. I have achieved this theme by putting emphasis onto the idea that the supernatural is always unknown and have made the audience aware of this fact by including unique composition and motifs. I have chosen an artwork as my medium for my response as it has allowed me to include multiple motifs which, through intertextuality, foreshadow and depict the themes within Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
