“Paint the Town” is a project which aims to enhance the visual appeal of Machinery Street in the Brisbane Showground King Street Precinct by allowing authorised artists to create graffiti art murals in front of live audiences. The aim of the project is to fulfill Lendlease’s objectives to regenerate and transform the King Street precinct and to also create a community space for artists to showcase their art in an interactive and creative atmosphere. The project will create a new and diverse cultural experience for both the residents of Machinery Street and King Street, and the greater Brisbane region as nothing like this has been done before, transforming a once empty space into a masterpiece of colour. By targeting the Cultural Lovers market and appealing to the Urban Eclectic which involves a vibrant mix of local events, businesses, celebrations and spaces, this project is designed to unite the public, businesses and the artists. It will also generate income for the businesses that have begun trading in this area and provide an extra drawcard for the public to mingle and socialize whilst adding visual appeal to an area that is still under construction. On conclusion of the project, the art pieces will remain, displayed for the community to come and revisit whenever they like thus creating a space for people to celebrate art and a continuation of the “rich cultural heritage” of the Brisbane Showgrounds.
