8 Pages Essays / Projects Year: Pre-2021

1) The Nazca Oceanic Plate, which is located in the south-eastern Pacific Ocean, is surrounded by four other tectonic plates which include the Cocos, The South American and Antarctic plates (MANCERO, 2017). When the Nazca plate moved southeast, it resulted in a drift away from both the Cocos and Pacific plates. However a collision with the South American plate occurred (MANCERO, 2017). This collision resulted in the Nazca plate subducting beneath the South American plate. As the Nazca plate was forced into the mantle, it melted and magma plumes rose to the earth’s crust (MANCERO, 2017). The magma plumes burnt to form an underwater volcano, which grew bigger to give rise to create an archipelago of volcanic islands, which is known as the Galapagos Islands today (MANCERO, 2017).
